Addiction is a serious issue, which is widespread in society today, and affects all generations. In particular, it is very relevant and common for us as university students and young adults - whether it is the usual culprits of addiction (the misinterpretation of addiction as implying only substance and alcohol abuse), or the more subtle yet serious addictions such as social media and gaming.
In light of our second anniversary tomorrow, the VOIS Cyprus Mental Health Committee seeks to carry out a new short campaign under the hashtag #BreakFree to highlight addiction issues, raise information about them and proffer solutions on how to deal with them.
Members of our Mental Health Committee are also students, and many understand addiction from direct or indirect experience. The goal is to not simply "preach" about it or demonize addicts.
As a matter of fact, we understand what it is like to fall into certain types of addiction, which are barely discussed, and how hard it can be to break free, generally.
Hence, addiction is a very serious issue, and an unhealthy coping mechanism that can ruin lives. Better alternatives do in fact, exist.
This poster is the beginning of our campaign, and can help highlight some signs of selected addictions, for which cautious measures should be the next recourse.
