Dr. Suat Yeldener, Undersecretary to the TRNC Prime Minister
On the 2nd of September, 2020, A VOIS delegation visits Dr. Suat Yeldener, Undersecretary to the TRNC Prime Minister, to discuss student issues and the establishment of a Commission which will work specifically on identifying and addressing problems faced by foreign students in the TRNC.
We highlighted the necessity for the government to take pro-active measures to curb some of these difficulties, problems which have been exacerbated by COVID-19. We also pressed on the necessity to form a Commission made up of student representatives and representatives from the Ministries of Education, Interior, Health and the Prime Ministry, with the purpose of tackling our mutual problems as a society.
The issue of the statements made by the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Ms. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and the mother of our deceased friend and student, Justice Amina Bello, was raised. The VOIS delegates have offered to mediate between the family, NIDCOM, and the TRNC government in efforts to find an amicable solution for all parties.
We are delighted to continue our working partnership with the Prime Ministry and look forward to their collaboration in addressing students' problems. We also want to invite student associations, to get in touch with us as we work toward the establishment of a Commission.
